PACHNER & ASSOCIATES INSURANCE PROGRAM FOR HIKING OR OUTDOORS ACTIVITY ORGANIZATIONS

PLEASE NOTE THAT AS OF MAY, 2010 SPECIAL LOW COST GROUP INSURANCE PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE FOR MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN HIKING SOCIETY AND THE NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY TRAIL CONFERENCE.  THE COVERAGE IS BROADER THAN THAT PROVIDED ON A STANDALONE BASIS.  INFORMATION ON THE PROGRAMS WILL BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THOSE ORGANIZATIONS.

This program enables not-for-profit outdoor activity organizations to operate with affordable liability insurance coverage for staff, volunteer directors and officers, volunteer administrators and activity leaders.  We have separate property/inland marine coverage available for those organizations that own real or personal property, including "unprotected" back country cabins or lodges and recreational equipment.  Other nonprofit organization coverage is also available.

Originally developed for member organizations of the NY/NJ Trail Conference, this program has been expanded to include other outdoors organizations, individual clubs, organizations or associations.  Our clients include individual outdoors clubs or conservation organizations with outdoors activity, regional and U.S. Department of the Interior-afiliated trail building and trail maintenance associations, and national associations of outdoors clubs and their chapters.  We also write insurance on nonprofit climbing/alpine and paddling clubs.

Our comprehensive liability program designed for nonprofit hiking & outdoor organizations, land trusts and environmental conservation organizations is comprised of two components:

(1)  Commercial General Liability insurance provided by a risk purchasing group established under authority of the Federal Risk Retention Act of 1986 with limits of $1,000,000 each occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate for bodily injury (including products liability with a $1,000,000 aggregate) property damage, or personal injury.  Liability coverage is written through an A.M. Best's A rated ("excellent" with "stable" outlook) insurer through program managers with an excellent track record of service to outdoors recreation organizations.

(2)  Participant Accident/Excess Medical Expense Coverage (AD&D) which is required by the liability insurer to keep rates low, and pays a benefit regardless of fault in the event of  death, a percentage in the event of serious injury or excess medical expense where the injured participant does not carry medical insurance medicaire Part B, or whose health insurance does not cover all expenses.  It is flexible, and usually features a $10,000 accidental death benefit and $25,000 excess medical expense limit with $1,000 deductible and is a separate policy to fulfill the requirements of the Risk Purchasing Group or master policy.

Non-owned/Hired Automobile Liability, Abuse & Molestation Coverage and Liquor Legal Liability coverage are optional and available at additional cost.

Optional higher liability limits are available at additional cost on an excess liability policy.

Directors & Officers Liability Insurance is available on a separate policy at competitive rates where required by your organization.  This policy normally covers claims against the organization resulting from alleged acts, errors or omission of the club's directors, officers and volunteer committee members that result in financial harm to others or impairment of the organization's assets, and excludes claims for bodily injury or tangible property damage.

NOTE: Our  program for hiking and outdoor activity organizations is designed primarily for outdoor activities that are non-motorized sports, such as hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sea kayaking or canoeing.  We also have a separate or supplemental program for down hill ski areas, ski clubs and ski instructors, snowcat skiing and ski mountaineering, technical or ice climbing and mountaineering, paddling, white water rafting or equestrian activities.  It is NOT designed for sports that primarily utilize powered conveyances such as snowmobile tours, ATV tours, heli skiing or power boat operators.
